NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team will compete at the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, hosted by the University of Southern California, this Tuesday through Sunday (May 29-June 3) at the 7,292-yard, par-71 Riviera Country Club course in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The 28th-ranked Sooners will be making their 33rd appearance at the championships and second straight under third-year head coach Ryan Hybl. They are the tournament's No. 22 seed.
“Out here in Los Angeles, it is a big-time feeling, and we are excited about what the golf course will play like,” Hybl said. “Riviera is a pure championship golf course, so our guys will need everything they have this week.”
The Sooners, who qualified by rallying for a fifth-place finish at the 14-team NCAA Norman Regional, will be one of the 30 squads playing three rounds of stroke play (Tuesday through Thursday). The top eight teams will advance to the match play portion of the event Friday through Sunday.

NCAA Championships | Tuesday-Sunday, May 29-June 3 |
Last season, OU entered the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Okla., as the 21st seed and finished in 29th place.
OU's lineup will feature junior Abraham Ancer, senior Riley Pumphrey, freshman Michael Gellerman, junior Will Kropp and sophomore Michael Schoolcraft.
Oklahoma is led by its upperclassman duo of Ancer and Pumphrey. The two have competed in a combined 73 rounds this year, earning 16 of the team's 29 top-20 finishes.
Ancer, who owns a team-best 72.54 scoring average, has been the team's top performer in five events this season, with a season-best share of third place at the Big 12 Championships. He leads the team with two top-five, four top-10 and nine top-20 finishes in a team-high 14 events. Ancer also paces the squad with eight rounds in the 60s.
Pumphrey earned season-best finishes of eighth place at the UTSA/Oak Hills and Linger Longer Invitationals. He ranks second on the team with three top-10 and seven top-20 finishes, as well as with his 72.75 stroke average.
Gellerman has been monumental in OU's post-season play. After participating in the team's first five events of the season, the true freshman has set career-best marks in back-to-back events. Gellerman finished with a share of 11th place at the Big 12 Championships. He then rebounded from a 5-over-par opening round in NCAA regional play to finish in fifth place at 1 under par. Included was a career-best 5-under 67 in the second round.
Kropp has seen action in all seven team events this spring and one individual event in the fall, recording a 74.80 scoring average and two top-20 finishes.
Schoolcraft owns OU's third-best scoring average, posting a 73.17 through 24 rounds. His three-round 214 (-2) was a team-low in the Sooners' lone tournament victory this season at the David Toms Intercollegiate.
“There are so many good teams,” Hybl said. “The first goal is to get in the final eight for a match play run.”
The Sooners will be paired with 23rd-seeded East Carolina and 24th-seeded Illinois in Tuesday's first round. They will tee off starting at 9:50 a.m. CT on the first hole. Live scoring will be available at NCAA.com.
