AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Oklahoma track and field teams continue the outdoor season this weekend, May 24-26 at the NCAA West Preliminary at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas. Action begins Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT and concludes Saturday at 9:45 p.m. CT. Oklahoma has 30 entries into the meet. The qualifiers from the West Preliminary meet the qualifiers from the East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., at the NCAA Championships, June 6-9, in Des Moines, Iowa. Tia Brooks extended her program record in the women's shot put on April 25 with the best mark in the nation this year. Brooks won the event at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, lengthening her record to 60 feet, seven and a quarter inches on her final attempt. The mark set a Drake Relays record. She met the Olympic A standard with the throw and defended her 2011 title at the meet.
The mark is the third best by an American this year and 11th best throw in the world. It's the 10th best throw ever by a collegian and she ranks sixth on the NCAA all-time list in the event with the mark.
Brittany Borman overtook the No. 1 spot in the javelin after her win in the women's javelin throw at the Sun Angel Classic on April 5. Borman's mark of 194-11 is an Oklahoma program record. The NCAA-leading throw set a Sun Angel Stadium facility and meet record. The throw is the second best by an American this year and ranks 26th on the world list this year.
The mark ranks Borman sixth on the United States all-time outdoor list and ranks her seventh on the collegiate list. Amongst American collegiate women, Borman is fifth. The throw also meets the Olympic B standard for the event.
Luke Bryant took over the top spot in the men's discus throw with a collegiate best throw of 202-4 on April 14 at the John Jacobs Invitational. All three individuals won the Big 12 title in their events.
