NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 27-March 4 the conference announced. The honor is the latest for Ricketts who was named the Louisville Slugger Division I National Player of the Week by the NFCA on Tuesday after she led Oklahoma in the circle and at the plate as the Sooners went 5-0 last week with wins over North Texas, LSU and Iowa.
Ricketts went 4-0 in her four starts and recorded her first save of the season in the lone game she did not start. The junior from San Jose, Calif., pitched back-to-back one-hitters against North Texas and LSU while striking out at least 10 batters in all four games started and six of the seven Iowa batters faced in her save. For the week, Ricketts had 54 strikeouts in 30.1 innings. She ended the week with an ERA of 0.46 while batters
Ricketts helped her own cause at the plate, leading OU with a batting average of .429 over the five-game stretch, recording six hits including two home runs and two doubles. Ricketts had four runs and four walks on the week.
This week's award is the sixth career Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honor for Ricketts and the first Big 12 honor by an Oklahoma player this year.
Ricketts and the Sooners return to action this weekend with the Oklahoma Spring Festival presented by Marriott. The Sooners kick off action in the event on Friday at 6 p.m. vs. Indiana.
