Sooners Win Five Titles on Saturday

McConnell Sets Collegiate Best in Heptathlon

AUSTIN, Texas – University of Oklahoma junior Claire McConnell became just the third Oklahoma female to eclipse the 5,000-point mark in the heptathlon as she set a new collegiate best with 5,204 points on Thursday afternoon at the Texas Relays. McConnell finished 10th overall and set collegiate bests in the final three events of the competition – the long jump, javelin throw and 800-meter run. Her 5,204 points remains the third-best performance in program history.

McConnell won the first section of the women's 800-meter run and finished third overall with a time of two minutes, 17.01 seconds. She threw 97 feet, five inches in the javelin and leaped 18-5 in the long jump to cap off collegiate bests in each of those events.

Hilary Krein turned in a collegiate best to take second in section B of the women's 1,500-meter run. Krein briefly held the lead in the race and crossed the line in 4:34.87. Teammate Kelly Waters also ran a collegiate best, finishing 12th in 4:39.97.

The women's 4x800-meter relay of Shakeeri Cole, Molly Ferguson, Natalie Crain and Kelsey Brown took second with a time of 8:46.92.

Eric Cray qualified for Saturday's 400-meter hurdles final, running the seventh fastest time of the afternoon. Cray took third in the sixth heat of the event in 51.71 seconds.

Friday action begins at 9:30 a.m. CT with track events. OU's first race of the day is the Clyde Littlefield men's 4x100-meter relay preliminaries. Field events begin at 10 a.m. CT with section B of the women's high jump. A link to the live blog and live results is available at SoonerSports.com.
