NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts has been named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the third time in four weeks and the second straight week the conference announced today. The junior from San Jose, Calif., earned the honor after helping No. 7 Oklahoma to a 2-1 series win at No. 15 Baylor.
Ricketts split her two starting appearances at Baylor despite not giving up an earned run on the weekend. The junior struck out 18 Bears on the weekend including 14 strikeouts in Friday's 2-0 win. She gave up just nine hits in 13 innings of action and walked just three batters.
For the year, Oklahoma has earned five Big 12 weekly honors as Ricketts previously took pitcher of the week honors on March 6 and 20. Freshmen Lauren Chamberlain and Georgia Casey earned back-to-back Big 12 Player of the Week honors on March 13 and 20, respectively.
Ricketts had previously won three pitcher of the week honors in the same season in 2010 en route to joining Lauren Eckermann (2007) and Jill Most (1996) in becoming the only Sooner pitcher to accomplish the feat.
Ricketts and the Sooners return to action on Wednesday in the first leg of the 2012 Bedlam Series presented by Farm Bureau. First pitch between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
