NORMAN, Okla. --No. 7 Oklahoma (26-4, 2-1 Big 12) and Oklahoma State (16-12, 1-2 Big 12) square off Wednesday night in the first leg of the Bedlam Series presented by Farm Bureau. The neutral site game at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City has a first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday night's game will determine the series leader as the teams enter the match up knotted up at 70 wins each in the 140-game history of the series.
The Sooners enter the game having won 17 of their last 18 games including a 2-1 series win over Baylor while the Cowgirls have split their last six including a 2-1 series loss to Kansas.
Oklahoma is led at the plate this season by freshman Georgia Casey with a .439 batting average. She's one of three Sooners batting over .400 as Jessica Shults (.429) and Keilani Ricketts (.403) have provided a threat at the plate. The Sooners are No. 2 in the Big 12 with a batting average of .330 and have three players in the top six in conference home runs including league leader Lauren Chamberlain with 12.
OU leads the Big 12 in pitching with a team ERA of 0.74 while Ricketts (0.73) and Michelle Gascoigne (0.81) are seventh and 11th, respectively, in the NCAA ERA charts. The two rank third and fifth nationally with 11.3 and 10.8 strikeouts per seven innings.
OSU is led at the plate by Tamara Brown with a .359 average and in the circle by Kat Espinosa with an ERA of 1.94. Oklahoma State has three batters hitting over .300 and is ninth in the Big 12 with a team batting average of .231. OSU is seventh in the conference with a team ERA of 2.36.
In conjunction with the Bedlam game, ASA and The Oklahoman will be running a crayon drive to benefit North Highland Elementary School in Oklahoma City. Fans are encouraged to bring a new pack of crayons to the game and in exchange they will receive a FREE soft drink in an ASA Complex Souvenir Cup on March 28.
