FULLERTON, Calif. -- Oklahoma Head Coach Patty Gasso hit a major coaching milestone Friday as she hit the 1,000-win mark as her No. 7 Sooners defeated Virginia, 9-1, and Penn State, 6-1, at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif. The wins extended Oklahoma's win streak to 15 as the Sooners moved to 24-3 on the year.

With the two wins, Gasso's career record moved to 841-272-2 at Oklahoma and 1,001-333-3. The squad became the sixth under Gasso to win at least 15 games in a row as it enters Saturday's match up against No. 3 Washington.

Michelle Gascoigne got the win against Virginia and remained perfect on the year with a record of 10-0. The junior struck out nine while giving up just one run off five hits.

Oklahoma jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to Jessica Shults' eighth home run of the season, a solo shot over right center.

After not recording a run in the second inning, Oklahoma put together a six-run third inning highlighted by a three-run home run from freshman Georgia Casey. Javen Henson led things off for the Sooners with a double to left center before Destinee Martinez laid down a successful bunt to put Sooners on the corners. Martinez stole second before Jessica Shults sent a single through the right side of the Virginia infield to send Henson home for the first run of the inning.

After Callie Parsons replaced Shults on the base path, Keilani Ricketts sent a double off the center field wall to score Martinez and send Parsons to third. After a Lauren Chamberlain strikeout, Casey sent her three-run shot over the left field fence for her fourth career home run. The Sooners were not done scoring in the inning, however, as Brittany Williams followed with a double to right center before Brianna Turang legged out a single to second that sent Williams to third. When the Virginia defense attempted to catch Turang stealing at second, Williams took off for home and Oklahoma's seventh run.

Virginia got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Alex Skinkis singled up the middle before stealing second. Skinkis advanced to third on a ground out to Gascoigne before scoring on a single through the right side by Karli Johnson.

Oklahoma waited until the final inning to add two more runs as Erica Sampson reached on a single before advancing to second on a throwing error. After a Turang bunt put runners on the corners, Allee Allen sent a sacrifice fly deep to center to score Sampson. Back-to-back singles from Ali Vandever and Martinez loaded the bases for Shults who hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Turang for Oklahoma's ninth and final run.

Just as they had in the day's earlier game, Oklahoma struck first against Penn State with a run in the top of the second. Kirsten Allen got the start for the Sooners, going three innings with two strikeouts while giving up three hits and one run before being replaced by Ricketts. Pitching in relief for just the second time this year, Ricketts moved to 12-3 on the year with eight strikeouts while not giving up a hit.

OU got its first run in the top of second after Chamberlain and Williams got back-to-back walks before an error by Penn State shortstop Alyssa Renwick loaded the bases for the Sooner with Turang reaching first. The next batter, Jessica Vest, received Oklahoma's third walk of the inning to send Chamberlain home for the first run of the game.

Penn State knotted things up at one in the bottom of the fourth when Kailyn Johnson got the first run of the year off Kirsten Allen with a solo shot over the right center fence.

The score remained tied at 1 until the top of the sixth when pinch hitter Katie Norris changed the direction of the game. After Williams singled up the middle, Turang moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. It was then that Norris was brought in as a pinch hitter and promptly sent her third home run of the season over the left field fence to give Oklahoma a 3-1 lead.

Shults looked to close the door on Penn State in top of the seventh when she sent her ninth home run of the season over left center. The solo shot extended Oklahoma's lead to 4-1. If Shults closed the door, Casey sealed it shut with a two-run home run that flew well over the left field fence to score the freshman and Ricketts who reached on a walk.

Oklahoma closes out action at the Judi Garman Classic on Saturday as it faces No. 3 Washington at 11 a.m. PST. Both teams enter with extensive win streaks as the OU (24-3) rides a 15-game winning streak into the match up against the Huskies (27-1), winners of 14 straight.
