NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 8/9 Oklahoma (10-3) opens its 2012 home season this weekend with LSU (9-4) and Iowa (8-6) coming to Marita Hynes Field on Friday and Sunday. OU also faces both teams on Saturday in The Preview at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
The Sooners will look to knot the series history with the Tigers Friday when they open home play at 6 p.m. in a series that LSU currently leads 6-5.
Barring an LSU win, OU has an opportunity to take the series lead when the two return to the diamond Saturday at 4 p.m. in Oklahoma City.
The Tigers enter the weekend on a six-game win streak and are led by pitcher Rachele Fico who carries a season ERA of 0.37 with a pitching record of 5-1.
The Sooners and the Hawkeyes will face off for the first time since May of 1996 Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Oklahoma City. In that game on May 19, 1996, OU lost 7-2, but leads the overall series 7-4.
Iowa enters the weekend having won five of its last seven and is led at the plate by Katie Keim, who is batting a .417 clip.
Oklahoma got its 10th win of the season Wednesday night at Denton, Texas, with a 4-1 victory over North Texas. Keilani Ricketts held the Mean Green to just one hit without giving up an earned run.
Ricketts (5-3) is tied with Michelle Gascoigne (5-0) for the team lead in pitching victories and holds a 1.35 ERA with 92 strikeouts on the year. Jessica Shults leads OU at the plate with an average of .474 and is tied with the team lead with 14 RBIs with freshman Lauren Chamberlain.
Fans at both games will be able to pick up 2012 Oklahoma Softball posters and schedule cards.
Sunday is the first of many Season Ticket Holder Sundays with randomly selected season ticket holders winning prizes throughout the game.
