NORMAN, Okla. -- The 35th-ranked University of Oklahoma's men's golf team stands alone in first place after Monday's first and second rounds of the 15-team UTSA Oak Hills Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. The Sooners followed a first-round 288 (+4) with a second-round 284 (E) and lead second-place Baylor by four shots and three-time defending champion Texas Tech by five strokes at the 6,765-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club.

"It's nice to be in a position to win," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said," which is our goal this week."

OU junior Abraham Ancer is tied for first place with Louisiana-Lafayette's Andrew Noto out of 81competitors. Ancer took over the top spot in the first round after recording five birdies and two bogeys. A couple bogeys on the back nine kept Ancer at par in the second round. With rounds of 68 and 71, he sits at3 under par with 18 holes left to play.

After firing a two-round 141 (-1), Riley Pumphrey is tied for third place. The Sooners' lone competing senior had a slow start in the opening round but got hot when he birdied the first three holes of the back nine. The second round was not quite as productive, but he still managed to turn in a respectable 1-over par performance.

"Abe played really solid today, and Pumphrey was really close all day to having two great rounds," Hybl said.

Sophomore Eduardo Castiello recovered from a 3-over-par first round by shooting a 70 (-1) in the second. His two-round 144 (+2) has him in a tie for 13th place.

In his first team event of his junior campaign, Will Kropp is tied for 37th place at 7 over par. Kropp shot afirst-round 78 (+7) before bouncing back with an even-par performance on the second 18 to help keep the Sooners on top.

Sophomore Michael Schoolcraft is tied for 57th place after carding a 10-over 152 in the first two rounds. Freshman Nicholas Smits, playing as an individual in his Sooner debut, is tied for 74th place at 12 over par.

"We have to come out tomorrow and play disciplined golf all day because this golf course can make you look not good if you let it," Hybl said. "The boys will be excited for tomorrow, and I am looking forward to seeing them step up."

The UTSA Oak Hills Invitational final round will begin Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
