Ricketts to Attend 33rd Annual Salute to Women in Sports

NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma senior pitcher Keilani Ricketts will travel to New York City to attend tomorrow night's 33rd Annual Salute to Women in Sports hosted by the Women's Sports Foundation at Cipriani Wall Street.
Ricketts is a finalist for the Team Sportswoman of the Year Award for her performances with the Sooners and Team USA.
Ricketts, the Amateur Softball Association 2012 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and unanimous Big 12 Player of the Year, ranked second in the NCAA with an ERA of 1.08, 457 strikeouts and 37 victories. Ricketts finished third in the nation in giving up just 3.91 hits per seven innings.
At the plate, she ended the season ranked ninth nationally with 53 walks and 10th with an on-base percentage of .553. She was also 19th with an .825 slugging percentage as she helped lead the Sooners to a second-place finish at the 2012 Women's College World Series.
On the international level, the San Jose, Calif., native captured a gold medal at the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara with Team USA, recording a win in the championship game against Team Canada. As both a pitcher and hitter, Rickets helped Team USA to a first place finish this summer at the World Cup of Softball VII in Oklahoma City, after she allowed just one run in 9.2 innings pitched and struck out 10 batters.
The senior, left-handed pitcher also helped Team USA finish second in both the 2012 Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Tournament and 2012 ISF Women's World Championship, where she was the team leader in pitching for games won (four) and strikeouts (25) over the course of the tournament.
Ricketts is one of several finalists in the team category alongside Katie Holloway (sitting volleyball), Destinee Hooker (volleyball), Alex Morgan (soccer), Maggie Steffens (water polo), Diana Taurasi (basketball) and Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings (beach volleyball).
Among the finalists, only Ricketts and Steffens – a freshman at Stanford – are currently NCAA athletes.
Ricketts aims to join Lisa Fernandez (1994), Cat Osterman (2005), Monica Abbott (2007) and Jessica Mendoza (2008) as the only softball players to win the award since the team category was introduced in 1993.
The winners of the Sportswoman of the Year Award will be determined by a combination of a public vote (50 percent) and the Women's Sports Foundation's Awards Committee's vote (50 percent). The winners will be the two athletes - one individual finalist and one team finalist - who receive the highest combined share of a public vote and the Awards Committee vote.
Founded in 1974 by tennis legend, Billie Jean King, the Women's Sports Foundation is dedicated to advancing the lives of girls and women through sports and physical activity.
