BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The No. 4 nationally ranked Oklahoma men's cross country team won the Lehigh Brooks Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., Friday morning. The win is OU's first since capturing the 2010 NCAA Regional Title.
Oklahoma competed on the eight kilometer course against 45 teams, including seven that were ranked in the top 25 of the national rankings according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Oklahoma was led by Jeremy Sudbury who finished second with a time of 24 minutes, 12 seconds. Sudbury was one of three Sooners that finished in the top five. George Alex placed third (24:13) and Bill Kogel finished fourth (24:13).
Following close behind for the Sooners was Kevin Schwab who finished in seventh, clocking a time of 24:19. Kevin Williams finished just behind Schwab in 18th with a time of 24:45, Eric Harasyn placed 23rd (24:49), and Frezer Legesse ran a time of 25:06 to place 43rd overall.
Six of the seven ranked teams finished in the top 20 as No. 22 Georgetown placed second, No. 18 Villanova placed fourth, No. 15 Syracuse finished at fifth, No. 17 Providence placed sixth and No. 19 Virginia placed 10th and No. 12 Princeton finished in 21st place.
Paul Chelimo of UNC-Greensboro won with a time of 23:55. James Leakos of Harvard University crossed the line at 24:14 to take fifth.
The men return to action on Oct. 15 at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
