NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma rowing team kicks off its fall season with the Head of the Oklahoma on the Oklahoma City River this weekend, Oct. 1-2. Oklahoma City University will host the regatta that features over 40 teams. The Sooners will compete in the collegiate divisions of the 4000-meter day races and the 500-meter OG&E Night Sprints.

"The team has been incredibly focused during the first couple of weeks of training," Oklahoma Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "I've been impressed with their work ethic since the first day of practice. We're looking forward to competing against Stanford and Texas who both had good speed last spring."

Oklahoma will have two boats competing in the collegiate eight, four boats in the collegiate four, two boats in the novice eight, eight boats in the open pairs and four boats in the open four. The collegiate eights will begin racing at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by the collegiate fours at 4:20 p.m. and the novice eight will race at 4:45 p.m. OG&E Night Sprints for the collegiate eights are scheduled to begin at 7:35 p.m. and the collegiate four night sprints begin at 9:15 p.m. On Sunday, the collegiate singles begin at 8:45 a.m., followed by the collegiate pairs at 9 a.m. and open fours at 10:55 a.m.

To advance to grand finals in the OG&E Night Sprints, Oklahoma has to place in the top six in the event's prelims. Places seven through 12 advance to the event's petite finals.

The race will kick off from Regatta Park which is located at 725 S. Lincoln Boulevard in Oklahoma City. For more information visit the Head of the Oklahoma website for racing results.
