NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's cross country team heads north this weekend to compete at the Roy Griak Invitational, Saturday Sept. 24, in Minneapolis, Minn.

The Sooner women's team features seven runners for the competition as  Molly Ferguson, Annie Martin and Kelsey Brown compete for the second time this season. Natalie Crain, Jessica Engel, Hilary Krein and Kelly Waters make their 2011 season debuts at the event.

The Sooners face tough opposition at the meet as eight ranked teams will be competing. No. 8 Iowa State, No. 10 Arizona, No. 11 Washington, No. 18 Penn State, No. 21 NC State, No. 23 BYU, No. 26 Michigan State and hosting No. 30 Minnesota are all competing in Minneapolis.
 
Engel and Ferguson competed in the 2009 Griak Invitational, which was the last time that the Sooners made an appearance in Minneapolis.  Engel finished 11th and Ferguson placed 61st, respectively.

The Sooner women placed fourth in their first competition of the 2011 season at the Hurricane Festival on Sept. 3.  Ferguson was the top finisher for the Sooners, crossing the line in 18th place. Brown placed 19th and Martin placed 20th.
