NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts held Australia without a run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the USA Softball Women's National Team topped the Aussies, 14-2, Wednesday evening at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C. Ricketts entered the game in the bottom of the seventh after the Americans posted eight runs in the top of the seventh.
After giving up a single to Australia's opening batter, Leigh Godfrey, Ricketts struck out Michelle Cox before allowing Stacey Porter on base with a single. The Sooner pitcher forced Brenda De Blaes into a fielder's choice as Porter was thrown out at second. Ricketts ended the game with a strike out of Jody Bowering.
Rickets, OU teammate Jessica Shults and the rest of the U.S. return to action Thursday when they host the face nation, Canada. Following the event, the American team heads to Oklahoma City for the World Cup of Softball VI. The event runs July 21-25 at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
