Rowing Takes Third at C-USA Championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Oklahoma women's rowing team competed in the Conference USA Championships Saturday, finishing third overall behind Tennessee and No. 15 Texas. Coxswain Kelsey Witten and rower Rebecca Staff were named to the All-Conference USA team for their efforts on the water.
All five boats finished in the top three of their respective heats Saturday morning to advance to the grand finals in the afternoon. The varsity eight claimed second in the morning with a time of six minutes and 44.49 seconds behind Tennessee (6:40.00).
The second varsity eight finished second with a time of 7:06.66 behind Kansas State (7:03.62). The varsity four also took second with a time 7:44.00 behind Tennessee (7:42.00).
The novice eight finished third with a time of 7:16.23 behind UCF (7:12.04) and Texas (7:07.50). The open four finished second behind Texas (7:44.30) with a time of 7:59.50.
Saturday afternoon marked the finals session, where Oklahoma claimed one bronze in the second varsity eight.
The Sooners placed fourth in the open four grand final, finishing in 7:32.35 behind Tennessee "A" (7:08.80), Texas (7:13.41) and Tennessee "B" (7:22.16). The novice eight took fourth in the grand final with a time of 6:52.77, behind Texas (6:43.50), Kansas "A" (6:47.87) and UCF (6:52.17).
The varsity four finished fourth with a time of 7:25.59, behind Texas (7:17.20), Tennessee (7:19.18) and Tulsa (7:22.80). The second varsity eight claimed the sole bronze, with a time of 6:50.06 behind Texas (6:38.80) and Tennessee (6:43.60).
The varsity eight finished the day placing fourth with a time of 6:40.28, behind Texas (6:28.80), Tennessee (6:29.25) and UCF (6:40.07).
