Ricketts, Shults Accept National Team Tryout Invite

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma sophomore All-Americans Keilani Ricketts (San Jose, Calif.) and Jessica Shults (Valencia, Calif.) have accepted invitations to the 2011 United States National Team tryout, the Amateur Softball Association announced today. The two are among 21 competing for spots on the U.S. women's national team this summer.

The 2011 selection camp takes place at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., June 12-17. Additional participants will be announced at a later date. The athletes selected to the USA Softball roster compete in seven different events in four countries this summer, including the World Cup of Softball IV July 21-25 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

Ricketts leads the Big 12 in strikeouts (249), appearances (28) and games started (21). Her strikeout total is third best in the nation and her 11.83 strikeouts per seven innings are fifth in the nation.

Shults leads the Big 12 with 18 home runs, a mark that is second best in NCAA Division I this season. She also ranks in the top 10 in the nation is home runs per game and runs batted in per game.

Both players were named to the top 50 watch list for the organization's National Collegiate Player of the Year award, given annually to the top player in NCAA Division I softball.

The Sooners are currently ranked 15th in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Division I poll.
