NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma rowing team earned a fifth-place ranking in the first NCAA regional rankings that were released on Wednesday.

The varsity eight is fifth behind No. 5 Virginia, No. 13 Texas, No. 14 Clemson, and #19 Tennessee. The second varsity eight took the sixth spot and the varsity four is fourth, ahead of Tennessee and UCF.

“I think it's quite an achievement to be ranked in only our third year as a varsity program,” Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. “The team has risen to every challenge this year and they've been relentless in their pursuit of excellence throughout the season. I'm really proud of them.”

The Sooners are back in action April 30 at the Big 12 Championships in Kansas City, Kan.
