OU Students to Support Softball on Earth Day

NORMAN, Okla. - President David L. Boren challenges the University of Oklahoma students to support OU's softball team and to participate in a campus-wide recycling competition.

The 15th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team begins their series with 22nd-ranked Texas A&M on April 22, 2011 at 7 p.m. The game takes place on Earth Day, a day to inspire awareness about Earth's natural environment.

"This competition is important to me because I truly believe in keeping our campus beautiful." Boren said. "This project which is a student-led effort is special because it supports our fantastic softball program while initiating a campus-wide recycling competition".

Every student that brings 10 pieces of recycling materials to the softball game will receive a free t-shirt with the slogan "Boren 2 Recycle", and be entered into a raffle for various prizes. Those prizes are: a ping-pong table, football signed by Bob Stoops, basketball signed by Lon Kruger and an Apple TV.

Before the game begins, bins will be placed outside the Marita Hynes Field at the OU softball complex. After a student brings their recycling, they will be given a raffle ticket to receive the prizes.

"I hope that the OU student body will join in the effort to recycle while also coming out to the game and support the OU softball team," Boren said.

All winners must be present to claim their prize. T-shirt supplies are limited, so arrive at the game early to receive the free T-shirt.
