Austin, Texas – The University of Oklahoma rowing team defeated Louisville in four events Saturday afternoon after falling to Wisconsin in the morning session. The Sooners picked up a novice eight win, a varsity four win, and two varsity eight wins on the day.
“I am really proud of the way we raced today,” Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. “The varsity eight was less than 5 seconds off Wisconsin, which is a good result for us in the early season. All of our boats performed quite well in the afternoon session against Louisville, going undefeated in that set of races.”
The first and second varsity eight boats took two wins from Louisville, with the first varsity eight finishing in a time of seven minutes, 16.500 seconds to Louisville's 7:18.300. The second varsity eight defeated Louisville, 7:48.800 to 8:03.200. The varsity eights both fell to Wisconsin in the morning session, with the first varsity eight losing to Wisconsin 7:20.000 to 7:24.900 and the second varsity eight falling 7:28.300 to 7:44.400.
The first varsity four claimed a win over Louisville, 8:53.000 to 9:06.000, after finishing behind Wisconsin in the morning, 8:16.600 to 8:24.100. The second varsity four fell to the Badgers 8:28.600 to 8:33.800 and did not compete against the Cardinals.
The first novice eight events went one and one on the day, trailing Wisconsin 7:43.400 to 8:04.800 before taking down Louisville 8:21.100 to 8:24.100. The second novice eight fell to both Wisconsin and Texas, finishing in 8:04.300 to Wisconsin's 7:55.300 and then losing to Texas 8:28.500 to 8:38.800.
I've been happy with how responsive the team has been to constructive feedback between race sets,” Crain said. “We are continuing to make adjustments as we go so that we can learn from our wins and losses.”
The Sooners are back on the water Sunday morning to take on UCF. Races begin at 9:04 a.m. CT
