Norman, Okla.- The University of Oklahoma women's rowing team finished second at the end of the first day of the OU Invitational Saturday. The Sooners racked up two varsity eight wins, two second varsity eight wins, and one varsity four win to score 46 points from the day.
"It was a great day for the Sooners," Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "We lost just one varsity race and I am pleased with the performance of the squad overall."
OU opened with a win over Kansas in the second novice eight event, with a time of 7:51.840 seconds. The first novice eight fell to Tulsa, 7:39.890 to 7:40.350. The Sooners then took first in the second varsity four with a time of 8:11.210, in front of Tulsa A (8:22.080) and Tulsa B (8:52.910). OU went on to beat Kansas in the second varsity four, 8:02.720 to 8:29.950.
The Sooners took two from Tulsa in the scored events, winning the second varsity eight 7:22.600 to 7:30.020 for eight points and the varsity eight 7:03.850 to 7:13.600 for 12. The varsity four boat fell to Tulsa, 8:03.740 to 8:05.300. OU finished the morning in third with 20 points.
Oklahoma took on Kansas in the afternoon session, falling in the first and second novice eight before picking up five straight wins. The varsity four (8:14.750) claimed six points for the Sooners, the second varsity eight (7:32.330) claimed eight over both Kansas (7:43.090) and Tulsa (7:41.030) and the first varsity eight (7:09.390) claimed 12 against Kansas (7:23.710). The second varsity four (8:12.580) and third varsity eight (7:38.900) events were not included in scoring.
OU returns to action Sunday morning at 8 a.m., to take on Creighton, followed by a matchup against SMU at Noon.
