A LOOK AT THIS WEEKEND'S ACTION
The ninth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team opens the 2011 season this weekend at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. OU is set to face Cal State Bakersfield, Appalachian State, Western Michigan and perennial powers Northwestern, Arizona and Arizona State.

A LOOK AT OKLAHOMA AS A TEAM
• Oklahoma returns 10 letterwinners, including two All-Americans, and welcomes seven newcomers.
• The Sooners are ninth in the USA Today/NFCA poll and sixth in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.
• OU received seven first-place votes and tallied 79 points to top the 2011 Big 12 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• The selection marks the third consecutive season in which Oklahoma has been chosen as the preseason favorite.
• Under Patty Gasso, OU is 9-2 against Northwestern, 6-21 against Arizona, 7-0 against Arizona State.
• Gasso has one win each against Appalachian State and Western Michigan.
• The Sooners are 165-145 (.532) all-time against ranked opponents. OU is 4-12 all-time against the No. 2 ranked team and 2-5 against No. 13.
• Oklahoma is 6-21 against a ranked Arizona team and 7-0 against Arizona State when the Sun Devils are ranked.

A LOOK AT OKLAHOMA INDIVIDUALLY
Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults have been named to the top 50 watch list for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.
• Head coach Patty Gasso is now 774-251-2 (.754) in 16 seasons at Oklahoma. Gasso is 26 wins shy of OU win No. 800.
• Gasso is 936-310-2 (.750) in her career, 64 wins from the 1,000-win plateau. She is in her 21st season as a head coach.

A LOOK AT THE SERIES HISTORY
• It is the first series meeting between Oklahoma and Cal State Bakersfield.
• Oklahoma holds a 10-2 series advantage over Northwestern.
• OU has a 1-0 record against Applachian State. OU won the only meeting 6-2 on February 4, 2005.
• Arizona leads the all-time series with the Sooners 26-11. The series with Arizona State is tied 10-10.
• Western Michigan is 4-1 against Oklahoma. The two schools last met in 2001 with OU winning 10-1.

A LOOK BACK AT THE 2010 SEASON
• Oklahoma ended the year 47-12, its most wins since winning 47 games in 2008.
• OU's pitching staff posted an ERA under 2.00 for the seventh time in the last nine years. The staff's 1.39 is the lowest since 2002 (1.28) .
• The 1.39 was also the second-lowest mark in the NCAA this season.
• OU ended the year 15-2 at home, 12-5 on the road and 20-5 at neutral sites.
• The Sooners received an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship as the winner of the Big 12 Championship.
• Oklahoma won the College Park, Md. regional to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals. It was OU's ninth NCAA Regional title.
• OU bowed out in the NCAA Super Regional in Seattle, Wash. against No. 3 seed Washington.
• Amber Flores, Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America second team.
• Ricketts and Shults were OU's first freshmen to earn All-America since Christina Enea (2002) and Erin Evans (2000) earned third team honors.
• The trio was also named to the NFCA All-Central Region first team.
• Lindsey Vandever earned NFCA All-Central Region second team honors.
• Flores was the 2010 Big 12 Player of the Year. She is the first player in league history to earn the honor twice.
• Vandever was the 2010 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. She is the fourth Sooner to earn the award.
4 Flores, Ricketts, Shults and Vandever were all first team All-Big 12 selections. Katie Norris and Haley Nix were named to the second team.
