Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma rowing team will close out its fall season with two regattas this weekend in California. On Saturday, Nov. 5, the Sooners are slated to compete at the Head of the Marina in Marina Del Ray, Calif. On Sunday, Nov. 6, the team will race in Newport, Calif., at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival. This is the first trip to either of these regattas for OU, now in its fourth year of competitive action.
Oklahoma opens competition at the Head of the Marina on Saturday at 7:40 a.m. PT with two boats in the collegiate four event, followed by two boats in the novice eight event at 7:45 a.m. and four entries in the collegiate pairs event at 7:55 a.m. Competition continues into the late morning with one boat entered in the collegiate eight event at 8:50 a.m.
On Sunday, Oklahoma heads to the NARF, where the varsity squad will face crews from Gonzaga, UCLA, San Diego State and the University of San Diego. Competition begins at 8:00 a.m. PT with three Sooner crews racing in the open eight event. Competition will wrap up for OU on Sunday with two boats competing in the novice eight against Stanford and USC at 9:15 a.m. and four boats racing in the open four at 9:45 a.m.
Last weekend Oklahoma claimed the top four spots in the open four event in Austin, Texas, at the Head of the Colorado. The varsity eight placed second, trailing Texas by just five seconds, and the second varsity eight event claimed fourth and the third varsity eight claimed sixth at the event.
