The University of Oklahoma men's golf team, ranked 35th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, will travel to Dallas, Texas, this week to participate in the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. The fourth annual event, co-hosted by No. 24 Baylor and No. 45 SMU, will be played Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the 7,068-yard, par-71 Royal Oaks Country Club.

Oklahoma will look to build on the success of its last event, a first-place finish at the David Toms Intercollegiate Oct. 17-18 in Shreveport, La.

“Coming off the win two weeks ago, I expect our boys to go to Dallas with confidence and high expectations,” said third-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl.

The Sooners' lineup will feature Abraham Ancer, Riley Pumphrey, Eduardo Castiello, Michael Schoolcraft and Michael Gellerman.

Playing in the team's No. 1 spot, Ancer leads the Sooners into the event with four top-25 finishes, including three top-10, in OU's four events this fall. The junior, ranked No. 81 nationally according to Golfweek/Sagarin, leads the team with a 71.33 scoring average through 12 rounds of play.

Pumphrey, a senior, will play in the Sooners' No. 2 position. A reliable member of the OU lineup, Pumphrey has finished in ninth and 20th place in his two events this season. He finished in second place at the Royal Oaks, formerly the Baylor Intercollegiate, during his redshirt-freshman year in 2008-09.

Castiello is participating in his fourth event of the year. The sophomore from Guadalajara, Mexico, is coming off an even-par performance and a season-high sixth-place finish in Louisiana.

Schoolcraft was the standout for the Sooners in their last event. The sophomore opened the David Toms Intercollegiate with a 6-under-par first round and finished the tournament in a tie for third place. He ranks second on the team with his 71.68 average.

Gellerman turned in his best performance of his freshman campaign at the David Toms, a tie for 14th place. He has recorded three top-25 finishes and owns a 72.75 average through the first 12 rounds of his collegiate career.

The 14-team field also includes No. 19 New Mexico, No. 25 Duke, No. 29 Iowa, No. 30 Tulsa, No. 36 Texas A&M, Army, Augusta State, Houston, Lamar, Missouri and Notre Dame.

Augusta State (the last two) and Texas A&M have combined to win the last three NCAA Men's Golf National Championships.

“We need to finish off the fall great this week as we head into the offseason,” said Hybl. “Our goal will be to give ourselves a chance to win.”

Teams will play the first two rounds Monday. The first round (shotgun start) will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT. The second round will immediately follow the first and will be continuous play.
