BOSTON - The Oklahoma rowing team placed 19th out of the 37 boats competing at the Head of the Charles on Sunday. The Sooners tackled the three-mile racecourse beating out two of their Conference USA opponents in Alabama and Central Florida.
"We got passed pretty early in the race by Harvard which shook us up a little," Oklahoma Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "It just seemed like we lost our composure and started rowing short. We need to learn how to respond a little better to adversity. We need to trust our race plan and not let outside variables control us so much."
The Sooners fielded one boat in the competition, led by coxswain Carly Schueler and rowers Rebecca Staff, Nikki Furmanek, Nicole Bladow, Brooke Sheppard, Kristin Clift, Olivia Staff, Kellie O'Reilly and Meghan Farrell. The boat finished in a time of 17 minutes and 11.314 seconds.
Virginia took first overall in the race with a time of 16:11.519 followed by Harvard at 16:19.634 and Michigan in a time of 16:22.007.
The Sooners return to the water Saturday, Oct. 29, in Austin, Texas for the Head of the Colorado.
