Cross Country Set To Compete in Arkansas

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams head to Fayetteville, Ark., this Saturday, Oct. 15, to compete in the 23rd annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival.

The Festival expects to host approximately 4,800 runners and more than 5,000 spectators.  The festival will be held at the University of Arkansas cross country course, with the men's race covering 10,000 meters and the women' 6,000 meters.  The men's collegiate race begins at 9:45 a.m. CT, while the women follow at 10:30 a.m.

2011 Chile Pepper Festival

The Chile Pepper Festival marks the first competition for the No. 3 nationally ranked men's team since winning the Lehigh Brooks Paul Short Run on Sept. 30. The women's team returns to action since placing 19th at Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24. Both the men's and women's teams face ranked teams with the men taking on No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 15 Arkansas. The women face No. 11 Arkansas, No. 17 Texas and No. 29 Oklahoma State.

The Sooner men are led by seniors Aaron Sherf and Eric Harasyn, redshirt junior Kevin Williams, junior Frezer Legesse and redshirt freshmen Daniel Nicolls and Ryan Poland.  Fellow redshirt freshman Taylor Wardall, who finished first among Oklahoma men at the Hurricane Festival with a third-place finish, rounds out the men's team.

The women's team will be anchored by redshirt junior Jessica Engel, who placed 12th at the Griak Invitational.  Seniors Annie Martin, Kelly Waters and Natalie Crain, junior Molly Ferguson and sophomores Hilary Krein and Kelsey Brown complete the women's team for Saturday's race.
