6:23 p.m. | Final: Oklahoma 47, Florida State 17 The Seminoles get a late touchdown but Oklahoma posts a convincing 47-17 victory against No. 17 Florida State. Watch for complete coverage here at SoonerSports.com. Boomer Sooner! 6:19 p.m. | DEs Perform Nice job by the Sooner defensive line against FSU's veteran O-line. Frank Alexander, back in the lineup after setting out last week due to injury, notched two sacks for -15 yards. Jeremy Beal inched closer to the career sacks leader mark at OU with one tonight. Beal now has 22.5 overall, just nine behind the all-time mark of 31.5 set by Cedric Jones (1992-95). 6:06 p.m. | Florida State Fans A tip of the hat to Florida State fans who made a long trek to Norman to support their team. The Sooners didn't provide FSU many opportunities to break out the War Chant but the fans held in there. Not a long shot to guess that Florida State hasn't experienced the opposing team playing its fight song in pre-game. Some things only happen here at Oklahoma. 6:01 p.m. | Crowd Sets Record Today's crowd breaks the all-time school record for consecutive sellouts. Oklahoma now has 70 (including every home game under Coach Stoops). The old record was 69-straight from 1971-1984. During the current streak, more than 5.6 million fans (5,603,609 to be precise) have cheered on the Sooners here at Owen Field. Today's attendance of 85,630 is also the school's second largest home crowd (behind 85,646 against Texas Tech in 2008). 5:57 p.m. | Working Clock, Reserves Oklahoma is working the clock and working in reserves on this drive. Drew Allen is in at quarterback for the Sooners while Jermie Calhoun is in at running back. 5:49 p.m. | Stadium Silent After being loud all day, the Sooner crowd has gone silent as freshman running back Brennan Clay is attended to on the field. Clay took a hit after a screen pass and is still down on the field. He has been loaded onto the cart and the Sooner fans are applauding him as he is driven off Owen Field. 5:44 p.m. | Player With Heart Landry Jones was just announced as the Integris Heart Hospital "Player With Heart". Jones has 29 completions on 39 attempts with 324 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. 5:41 p.m. | OU Tough on FSU Coaches Today marks the first time Florida State has played in Norman in 35 years. It appears first-year FSU coach Jimbo Fisher will suffer his first loss and come up short against a nationally-ranked opponent. Ironically, his predecessor - College Football Hall of Fame coach Bobby Bowden - had the same opportunity when his first-year Seminoles visited No. 4 Oklahoma on Sept. 25, 1976. Bowden's Seminoles came up short 24-9 in the third game of his 34-year Florida State tenure. 5:29 p.m. | Defensive Statement After yielding on a game-opening drive, the Sooner defense is making a statement against the Seminoles. FSU came in with a Heisman Trophy hopeful at quarterback but Ponder's candidacy has taken a severe hit here in Norman. 5:21 p.m. | Seminoles Tiring The Florida State defense looks to be wearing out here late in the third quarter. They have had no choice but to grab OU's receivers as they run by, resulting in a slew of penalties. They also were tacked with a personal foul following a hit after the whistle. The Sooners have imposed their will on the Seminoles and their frustration is starting to show. 5:16 p.m. | Tight End Tandem Going back to our note on Trent Ratterree, both he and James Hanna have recorded their first career touchdowns today. Jermaine Gresham was the last tight end to score a TD before today -- Gresham caught two in the 2008 national title game against Florida. 5:12 p.m. | Way's Big Leg A couple notes on punter Tress Way... His opening punt went for 53 yards, marking his fourth punt of 50-plus yards this season and 26th of his career. Most recently in the third quarter, Way had his 10th punt of 60 yards or more. 5:08 p.m. | Back-to-Back Picks Jamell Fleming follows up T-Lew's interception on the previous drive with one of his own on the latest. It's Fleming's second pick of the season after he had the crucial one vs. Utah State last week. The Sooners turned both into points, this time with a 39-yard field goal from Patrick O'Hara. 5:02 p.m. | Reward for Ratterree Weatherford-native Trent Ratterree gets his first career touchdown to extend Oklahoma's lead to 41-7. Both of OU's tight ends have now contributed to the scoring effort, something the Sooners lacked a bit last year in the absence of Jermaine Gresham. It's also a nice reward for Ratterree, who has worked as hard as anybody during his career. In last year's season finale vs. OSU, Ratterree's hustle play to tackle a Cowboy defender to preserve the 27-0 shutout. It was voted the top play in our online poll following the season. 4:57 p.m. | Pressure on Ponder The pressure OU's defense has been putting on the Florida State QB throughout the day finally translates into a turnover. Travis Lewis gets the pick off a tipped pass and rumbles inside FSU's 10-yard line. Oklahoma has now had an interception in 97 of its last 128 games, an impressive feat of its own. 4:52 p.m. | Switching the Field Sophomore punter Tress Way delivers another bomb to switch the field position battle back in OU's favor. After an 85-yarder last week, this one was a bit more modest at just 60 yards. A huge asset to the Sooner defense, Way gives them a cushion just when it looked like the Seminoles would have a short field. 4:48 p.m. | Secondary Harassment Florida State came out firing to start the second half but the Sooner defense tightened up and forced the Noles to punt. OU's secondary has been harassing the FSU wide receivers all day long and have gotten their hands on a lot of passes. Give the DBs credit for a much more consistent performance today. 4:42 p.m. | 30 More Minutes Since returning to the field, the OU coaching staff has been stressing "30 more minutes." Even with a big lead at the half, the Sooners are focusing on keeping the pedal to the floor. Asked numerous times this week if they were going to come out with something to prove after last week's performance, they are certainly playing like it so far. Now they need to do it for another 30 minutes. 4:25 p.m. | Halftime The guns have gone off and we're at halftime in Norman with the Sooners leading Florida State, 34-7. The Sooners were on PPV last week but 92% of the nation is getting this performance live courtesy ABC. It's Oklahoma's 100th consecutive game on TV. 4:21 p.m. | Jones, Broyles Setting Records Landry Jones 273 first half passing yards is a career high and is tied for sixth best in school history. His previous career high was 235 yards against Idaho State in 2009. Sam Bradford holds the school record with 350 first half passing yards against North Texas in 2007. Broyles eight first half catches ties his personal best, which came against Stanford in last year's Sun Bowl. 4:17 p.m. | Sooners Rolling Night and day (literally) in performance, attitude and atmosphere between OU's opener and today's matchup with the Seminoles. The Sooners are swinging against FSU and look full of confidence. The OU fans are eating it up. 4:12 p.m. | Crowd Impact It's obvious that Florida State is having a rough time dealing with the hostile Oklahoma crowd. The Sooners don't boast the longest home winning streak in the nation for nothing. False starts and hesitation in the pocket hint that the whispering practice technique doesn't equate to 85,000 Oklahomans screaming in unison. 4:08 p.m. | More for Murray DeMarco Murray became only the second player in Oklahoma history to surpass 1,000 yards in three statistical categories: receptions, rushing and kick returns. George Buster Rhymes (1980-84) is the other Sooner to accomplish this feat. 3:52 p.m. | OU Against ACC Nice to see Kansas rise up and beat the ACC's Georgia Tech in a game many thought was over before it was played. Oklahoma has played every current member of the ACC (11 schools) with an all-time record of 28-6 against the conference. OU is 4-1 against Florida State, 3-4 against Miami and 2-1 against Clemson. The Sooners are a perfect 19-0 against the other eight ACC schools. 3:49 p.m. | Jones Composed Sophomore QB Landry Jones looks more comfortable in the pocket compared to the season opener. Perhaps the acres of protection the OU offensive line is providing is raising his confidence. Florida State is simply not getting penetration. 3:45 p.m. | Stepping Up Senior running back Mossis Madu is running hard for the Sooners and is supporting DeMarco Murray. Through the air, here comes Cameron Kenney and James Hanna who both have TD receptions in addition to Broyles. Nice to see more guys stepping up to support OU's recognized rainmakers. By the way, Hanna recorded the longest reception of his career, 46 yards, after grabbing his first career touchdown and first reception of the year. 3:28 p.m. | More on Corey Wilson As part of OU's Year of the Fans, Sooners were invited to submit their favorite memories for a chance to be featured on this season's tickets. The ticket for today's game features this memory submitted by Melvin Jones of Duncan, Okla.: "On Nov. 28, 2009, a lot of strong, young athletes inspired and amazed us with their physical achievements. But, the most inspiring was when one young man [Corey Wilson] simply got up and walked to stand with his fellow seniors on Senior Day. That, to me, is what the discipline, courage and determination of college athletics is all about." ![]() Wilson feature on SoonerSports.com | Wilson Video 3:28 p.m. | Back to Action It didn't take long in the second quarter for the Sooners to get right back on the board -- Landry Jones to Cameron Kenney for a 21-7 lead. 3:24 p.m. | Special Memory As part today's Year of the Fan celebration, OU recognized Sooner fan Melvin Jones from Duncan during the quarter break. Jones' favorite Sooner football memory inspired the design of today's game ticket. Jones' favorite memory was from last season's final home game vs. Oklahoma State when Corey Wilson simply got up and walked to stand with his fellow seniors on Senior Day. Wilson joined Jones on the field today for a special moment and presented him with a commemorative framed plaque. View the Sooner Memories behind all of this year's tickets here. 3:19 p.m. | Defense Responds Perhaps playing with a bit of a chip on its shoulder after Florida State drove for a score on its opening drive, the Sooners shut them down in three plays this time around. It's back to the offense with good field position around the 50-yard line. 3:17 p.m. | Return Brought Back As we mentioned a few minutes ago, OU will have to contain FSU's Greg Reid on kickoff coverage. Well, Reid broke loose on the last kickoff, but it was aided by an illegal block. Now backed up inside the 20, the entire stadium is on its feet to help the Sooner defense. 3:13 p.m. | By Land and By Air Once again, Oklahoma's balanced attack scores in different ways on its opening two drives. After Murray dove in for OU's first score, Jones finds Broyles for the second. Oklahoma 14, FSU 7. 3:11 p.m. | Driving Again A big pass down the middle to Ryan Broyles, a nice scramble by Landry Jones and a number of nice runs by Mossis Madu have the Sooners inside the red zone once again. It's nice to see Madu back out on the field after sitting out last week. He's definitely running with something to prove in front of the hometown crowd. 3:07 p.m. | No Returns Florida State's kicker has showed off a big leg on his first two kickoffs thus far, not even giving the Sooners a chance to return. On the other side, Oklahoma will have to contain the top return man in the country from a year ago, Greg Reid, which it did on the first attempt. Keep an eye on the special teams throughout the day, as they could have a significant impact on today's outcome. 2:59 p.m. | Seminoles Answer We mentioned on OU's opening drive how Florida State's defense wasn't getting much penetration. The Sooner defensive front found the same trouble on FSU's opening drive. The one time Oklahoma did get in the backfield, Christian Ponder showed he has some legs too, scrambling inside the five yard line for a first-and-goal. Two plays later, the Noles punched it in to tie the game. 2:54 p.m. | Starting Strong A good opening drive for the Sooners, who went 80 yards in 14 plays. It's also worth noting a couple other players who stepped up for the offense -- wide receivers Kenny Stills and Cameron Kenney. Each picked up a critical first down to contribute to the scoring effort. 2:49 p.m. | DeMarco Dives In The officials needed a second look to make sure Murray got in the end zone on his diving attempt, but after further review the call on the field was confirmed. Oklahoma makes an early statement, driving 80 yards for a 7-0 lead. Murray scores the 48th TD of his career and is now just nine away from OU's career record. 2:42 p.m. | Targeting the Studs No surprise, Oklahoma is going to right to Ryan Broyles and DeMarco Murray in the early going. Give credit to OU's offensive line as well, as Landry Jones has had a huge pocket to throw from. Florida State's defense has been unable to get any penetration so far on this first drive, allowing the sophomore QB to scan the field and find his favorite target. 2:38 p.m. | We're Underway The energy is high on both sides as Florida State's opening kickoff went through the end zone. Landry Jones leads the Sooner offense out on the field as we're underway here in Norman. 2:36 p.m. | Miss the Intro? If you haven't seen this year's intro video yet, it's worth checking out. You can view an HD version on our official YouTube channel. 2:33 p.m. | Grand Entrance After some timing issues last week, OU's entrance to Owen Field today was nothing short of earth-shaking. After showing the impressive new intro video, House of Pain's "Jump Around" rang through the stadium, reminiscent of the 2008 contest against Texas Tech. We're anticipating a similar environment in here today. It's already tough to hear ourselves think as the Sooner faithful are standing loud and proud, amped up for today's big matchup. You won't want to miss a minute of this one. 2:29 p.m. | Fan Favorites Oklahoma's dynamic trio of QB Landry Jones, RB DeMarco Murray and WR Ryan Broyles received the loudest ovations during the announcement of the starting lineups. The Sooners went to those three early and often last week. We'll see if they take the same approach today. FSU will counter with a high-powered offense led by Christian Ponder. 2:23 p.m. | Remembering 9/11 While we expect the crowd to be loud throughout the day, you could hear a pin drop in here moments ago as Oklahoma observed a moment of silence prior to the National Anthem to honor the ninth anniversary of 9/11. Members of the OU/Norman fire department also rang a bell three times to remember the three cities that were attacked. In 2001, OU played the first time after the attacks on September 29 and posted a 38-37 win against Kansas State in Norman. The game featured a ceremony and an American flag that completely covered Owen Field. 2:18 p.m. | There's Only One As the Pride of Oklahoma performs it's pre-game routine, their vacant seats in the student section are covered by a huge "There's Only One Oklahoma" flag. A nice addition today as we celebrate the Year of the Fan. We've seen a ton of the "There's Only One" T-shirts throughout the crowd as well. Thanks again Sooner fans! You are proving once again to be the best fans in college athletics. Stay tuned as we continue to pay tribute to you, the fans, with various events throughout the day. 2:14 p.m. | Postseason Atmosphere Following up on that last note, Coach Stoops has said numerous times he would prefer not to play his brothers unless it's in the national title game. Even then, someone would still have to lose. Well, we have a championship-like atmosphere in here today. Something will have to give between the brothers today. 2:12 p.m. | Brotherly Love While the Stoops brothers have a long coaching history, today marks the first time two of them will face each other on opposing sidelines. Mark is in his first year as the defensive coordinator at Florida State after serving as an assistant under Mike at Arizona from 2004-09. Bob and Mike served on the same staff at Kansas State (1992-95) before coaching together at Oklahoma from 1999-2003. 2:08 p.m. | The Last Time Sooner fans obviously remember the last time these two programs squared off, as OU captured its seventh national title with a 13-2 victory over the Seminoles in the 2000 national title game. With a little bit of time to kill yet before kickoff, view highlights of that memorable performance here. 2:03 p.m. | FSU Returns Today marks the first time Florida State has played in Norman in 35 years. First-year FSU coach Jimbo Fisher will try and score his first win against a nationally-ranked opponent. 2:01 p.m. | It's Football Time in Oklahoma! PA announcer Jim Miller just welcomed the Memorial Stadium crowd with his signature line. Sooner fans are definitely ready for some football today. How can you not be with two programs like these going head-to-head? 1:58 p.m. | Florida State Trivia SoonerVision just ran an interesting piece of trivia up on the scoreboard... Did you know Mack Brown is an alum of Florida State? Brown originally attended Vanderbilt but later graduated from FSU. If the game on the field today isn't enough, here's just another reason for Sooner fans to cheer against the Seminoles today. 1:51 p.m. | Battle of Traditions We've seen a good contingent of garnet and gold around campus the last couple of days and expect a strong showing from the Seminole faithful today. No rumblings of FSU's "war chant" have been heard yet, but if they start, it's a sure bet Florida State fans will quickly be drowned out by the ring of "Boomer Sooner!" throughout the stadium. OU's student section has already begun. 1:44 p.m. | Clear Blue Skies After some heavy cloud cover this morning, the clouds have broken here in Norman. We now have clear blue skies with just under 50 minutes until kickoff. With the sun now beating down inside the stadium and the temperature rising, it could be a battle of stamina between the Sooners and Seminoles today. 1:31 p.m. | Since 1947 Florida State began playing football in 1947. Since that time, the Seminoles have posted a 454-227-17 record overall (.663), good for the 13th-best mark in college football by winning percentage. The Sooners are 547-167-13 (.761) with the nation's most wins and best winning percentage. 1:24 p.m. | Warming Up The Sooners and Seminoles are on Owen Field warming up here roughly 75 minutes to kickoff. The Sooners will wear their traditional home uniforms with crimson jerseys and white pants while Florida State is decked in their road white jerseys and gold pants. A good omen, this is exactly the same uniform arrangement (minus the bowl patches) of the last meeting in the series: a 13-2 Oklahoma win in the 2000 National Championship game. 1:06 p.m. | We're Live We're set up here behind the OU bench and ready to bring Sooner fans another edition of our live blog from Owen Field. The students are in early complete with crimson and white Boomer Sooner signs. We've got overcast conditions with a stiff breeze blowing from the northeast. If the sun was out, it would be miserable with the humidity but once again, we're blessed with nice conditions for the fans in the stands and the players on the field. 10:29 a.m. | Live Video Oklahoma All-Access members can watch a live pre-game feed from Owen Field as the Sooners prepare to play Florida State. The webcast begins at 1:30 p.m. and ends at kickoff (TV has exclusive rights to the game).
