Sooners Ranked No. 10 in AP Preseason Top 25

NORMAN — For the 27th consecutive season, the Oklahoma football team is ranked in the Associated Press preseason top 25. The AP released its preseason poll Monday morning and OU is ranked No. 10.
The Sooners, entering their fifth season under head coach Brent Venables, garnered 1,047 points in the poll. Oklahoma's streak of 27 appearances in the preseason AP Top 25 is the second-longest current string behind Ohio State (38). It also represents the 68th time that Oklahoma has appeared in the preseason AP poll, second most behind the Buckeyes (73 times). OU's all-time average preseason AP rank is 7.12, best in the nation (Alabama is second at 7.18).
Additionally, of its 68 appearances in the AP preseason poll, Oklahoma has been ranked 20th or higher 66 times. That has occurred in each of the last 27 preseason polls.
The rest of the preseason top 10 consists of No. 1 Ohio State (1,672 points), No. 2 Oregon (1,597), No. 3 Georgia (1,513), No. 4 Notre Dame (1,510), No. 5 Texas (1,483), No. 6 Indiana (1,440), No. 7 Miami (Fla.) (1,379), No. 8 Texas A&M (1,131) and No. 9 Ole Miss (1,102 points).
The Sooners are one of nine SEC teams in this year's preseason AP poll. Outside of the top 10, LSU is ranked No. 11 (988 points), Alabama is No. 13 (904), Tennessee is No. 20 (394) and Missouri is No. 25 (117). Oklahoma is scheduled to play four of the top 10 teams in the AP preseason poll and six of the top 25 squads: Georgia (away), Texas (neutral site), Texas A&M (home), Ole Miss (home), No. 16 Michigan (away) and Missouri (away). Oklahoma will also face Florida (away), South Carolina (home) and New Mexico (home), all of which received votes in the preseason AP poll.
Oklahoma, which is ranked No. 9 in the preseason USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, was picked seventh in the SEC preseason media poll.
OU opens the 2026 season Friday, Sept. 4, against UTEP at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
