NORMAN, Okla. – Freshman Destinee Martinez (Mira Loma, Calif.) won gold with Team USA at the III Pan American Championship this past month. Team USA defeated Canada, 3-1, to win the event and qualify for the International Softball Federation Junior Women's World Championship, scheduled for December 2011 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Martinez saw action in all eight games, starting four of those contests in the outfield. Martinez went 2-for-4 during the event with two runs scored. She also drove in one run and went 1-for-2 in stolen base attempts.

Former Sooner All-American Amber Flores (Calexico, Calif.) saw her team, the USSSA Pride, capture the 2010 Cowles Cup as champions of the National Pro Fastpitch League. The Pride bested the Chicago Bandits in a best two-out-of-three series.
