SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Oklahoma rowing team advanced two boats to the Grand Finals Saturday at the San Diego Crew Classic.

The first varsity eight placed first in its heat with a time of seven minutes, 5.10 seconds. St. Joseph's placed second (7:12.28), followed by Trinity (7:16.89), St. Mary's (7:27.89), Orange Coast College (7:40.10), Santa Clara (7:52.26) and Arizona State (9:27.89). Oklahoma races in the Grand Final Sunday, March 28 at 12:40 p.m. CT, against San Diego, Sacramento State, St. Joseph's, Stanford Lightweights and Tulsa.
Oklahoma's first novice eight also advanced to the Grand Finals with a second-place finish behind Washington State, 7:48.68 to 7:38.9. San Diego placed third (7:50.93), followed by Kansas State (7:54.41), Cal Davis (8:03.33) and Cal Lightweights (8:45.34). The novice are scheduled to race in the Grand Final Sunday at 12:00 p.m. CT, against Washington State, USC, UCLA, Minnesota and Sacramento State.
The Sooner second varsity eight posted a time of 7:26.55, to finish fifth in its heat. Virginia “A” posted the fastest time of 7:02.8, followed by UCLA (7:07.23), SMU (7:22.89) and San Diego (7:23.81).
The second varsity eight raced a second time, placing first in front of Kansas State and Loyola. OU crossed the finish line at 7:15.50, Loyola (7:20.97) and Kansas State (7:21.02).
