NORMAN, Okla. — The Oklahoma men's track and field team returned to the nation's top 10, at No. 9, in the latest rankings based on overall season performance provided by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday. The Sooners jumped three spots to No. 9 to place in the top 10 for the fifth time out of the seven rankings this season by the USTFCCCA while the Oklahoma women remained in the top 20 at No. 19.

The OU men, fresh off the program's first ever Big 12 Indoor title, are third among Big 12 schools but defeated No. 1 Texas A&M by 14.5 points and No. 7 Texas Tech by 39.5 points Saturday in Ames, Iowa.

The Sooners were helped in the rankings by athletes recording five season-best performances at the Big 12 meet.  The Big 12 champion in the 60-meter hurdles, Ronnie Ash took over the nation's top ranking as he looks to defend his 2009 NCAA title in the event.  Ash is joined in the event's top 10 by teammate Malcolm Anderson at No. 8.

The biggest jump was made by sophomore Mookie Salaam after he captured the Big 12 60-meter dash title. Salaam moved from No. 14 to No. 6 in the 200-meter dash while jumping 20 spots to No. 17 in the 60-meter dash.  A third Big 12 champion, K.P. Singh, remains at No. 8 in the men's weight throw.

Two relays round out Oklahoma's entries in the nation's top 10 as the 4x400-meter relay of Remuro Henry, Jarell Warren, Eric Bailey and Zach Dawson is No. 8 in the nation while the distance medley relay of Eric Harasyn, Henry, Scott Cooper and Jacob Boone is No. 10.

The Oklahoma women, third among Big 12 teams, have been a top-20 team in six out of the seven rankings and return after five ranked athletes posted season-best performances at last week's Big 12 Indoor Championships.  The Big 12 champion in the shot put, Karen Shump jumps to No. 2 nationally in the event. Shump is one three OU throwers ranked nationally in the shot put, joined by Tia Brooks at No. 10 and Amy Backel at No. 24.

Scottesha Miller ran a season-best 7.30 in the 60-meter dash at the Big 12 Championships to move up to No. 6 in the national rankings while she also holds a No. 7 ranking in the 200-meter dash.

The Sooners return to action this weekend at a number of NCAA Last Chance Qualifiers in South Bend, Ind., Fayetteville, Ark. and Ames, Iowa.
