NORMAN,Okla.-- The University of Oklahoma rowing team races at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas March 19-21. Located on Lady Bird Lake, Oklahoma races 2,000 meters in dual format against Texas, Iowa, Louisville, Kansas State and Central Florida.
Oklahoma hits the water Friday evening at 5:28 p.m. against Big 12 opponent Kansas State. The first novice eight square off first, followed by the first varsity four, second varsity eight and the first varsity eight. The last time the Sooners and Wildcats met was at the Big 12 Championship where Oklahoma finished ahead of Kansas State in all three races.
The second session begins at 8 a.m. against Texas, another Big 12 opponent. The order of boats is first novice eight, first varsity four, second varsity eight, first varsity eight, second novice eight and second novice four. At the 2009 Longhorn Invitational, Oklahoma's first novice eight went 1-1 against Texas. Oklahoma also finished ahead of Texas in two of the three Big 12 Championship races, including the first varsity four and first novice eight.
The third round of racing is slated for 4:48 p.m. as Oklahoma meets Louisville for the first time since the SIRA Championships, where the second novice eight finished just ahead of the Cardinals in a six team heat. The first varsity four leads off, followed by the second novice eight, first varsity eight and first novice eight.
Sunday's session concludes the Longhorn Invitational. Oklahoma races at 9:28 a.m. against Central Florida. Racing first is the first varsity four, followed by the second varsity eight, first varsity eight and first novice eight. At the invitational last season, Oklahoma raced Central Florida once, defeating the Golden Knights 8:20.4 to 8:49.4.
Oklahoma heads into this weekend looking to build on its success at the OU Invitational. Oklahoma placed first in 14 races and the first novice eight and first varsity eight both went undefeated.
