NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma Track and Field athletes Ronnie Ash and Will Claye have remained on the updated watch lists for the 2010 Bowerman Award, track and field's equivalent to the Heisman, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Tuesday. With only 11 individuals on the current watch list for the award, the OU Track and Field program is one of only two in the nation to have multiple athletes on the watch list joining the University of Oregon with two athletes.
Both athletes entered the 2010 season with NCAA titles to their name as Ash, a junior, won both the 60-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles NCAA titles in 2009 and Claye, a sophomore, claimed the NCAA outdoor triple jump title. Currently Ash has the fifth-fastest time in the nation in the 60-meter hurdles after clocking a time of 7.74 in last weekend's New Balance Collegiate Invitational while Claye opened his season last week in the same meet.
The two join Oregon's Ashton Eaton and Andrew Wheating, German Fernandez (Oklahoma State), Samuel Chelanga (Liberty), Jeshua Anderson (Washington State), Trindon Holliday (LSU), Jason Colwick (Rice), Tabarie Henry (Texas A&M) and Ryan Whiting (Arizona State) as finalists for the award.

The Oklahoma men's Track and Field program maintained his hold on the No. 9 ranking in the latest national rankings released Tuesday by the USTFCCCA. The Sooners come in as the third-best Big 12 team behind No. 1 Texas A&M and No. 6 Nebraska. On the women's side, the Sooners remained in the top 20 at No. 19. The OU women are also third among Big 12 rivals.

Individually both the men's and women's programs have four athletes each in the nation's top 10. On the men's side Will Claye is ranked second in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump. Ronnie Ash is the nation's top-ranked hurdler while Malcolm Anderson comes in at No. 8. On the women's side, shot putter Karen Shump and pentathlete Charlotte Abrahamsen lead the way as each are ranked sixth in their respective events. Ti'Anca Mock is No. 8 in the long jump while Scottesha Miller is No. 9 in the 200-meter dash.
Next week's rankings by the USTFCCCA will mark a change as only current season data will be used to compile the ranks as opposed to the current pre-season/current season combination.
