LINCOLN, Neb. -- An Oklahoma thrower recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the second straight day at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Saturday as Tia Brooks won the women's shot put with a personal best. Brooks' throw of 53-6.50 (16.32) easily eclipsed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard as the redshirt-freshman held off teammate and OU record holder Karen Shump for the event title. The throw is the ninth best in the nation and the second best in the Big 12 behind Shump.
Shump finished just behind Brooks with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 53-5.00 (16.28).
Amy Backel took fifth in the event with a throw of 48-5.25 (14.76) while Brittany Borman was eighth with a throw of 47-1.75 (14.37).
Up next for the Sooners is the Tyson Invitational next weekend, Feb. 12-13, in Fayetteville, Ark.
