NORMAN, Okla. — The Oklahoma Track and Field program splits this weekend as the majority of the team heads to New York City for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. While the group is in the Big Apple, a group of Oklahoma throwers will be in Lincoln, Neb., for the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational as the remainder of the active roster remains in Norman for the Oklahoma Christian Invitational II, an event hosted inside OU's Mosier Indoor Facility by Oklahoma Christian University.
The group in New York will face a talented field as the prestigious two-day event features 16 nationally ranked programs. Of Oklahoma's entries, 15 are ranked in the top-25 nationally led by Ronnie Ash at No. 1 in the men's 60-meter hurdles and Will Claye at No. 2 in the men's triple jump. Claye also ranks seventh in the men's long jump while Anderson is joined in the 60 hurdles top-10 rankings by Malcolm Anderson at No. 9. Jacob Boone rounds out the men's top-10 rankings at No. 10 in the mile.
On the women's side, Ti'Anca Mock will compete in the long jump, an event she ranks seventh in, and the triple jump, an event she is 15th in. Mock is one of two OU women nationally ranked in two events as Scottesha Miller comes in at No. 9 in the 200-meter dash and No. 17 in the 60-meter dash.
The women's shot put in Nebraska will feature ranked competitors, led by Oklahoma's Karen Shump at No. 3 and Amy Backel at No. 18. The pair, along with Brittany Borman and Tia Brooks, will take on Arizona's Alyssa Haslen and Julia LaBonte, ranked 21st and 26th, respectively.
K.P. Singh is the lone member from the OU men's team in the event, competing in the weight throw on Friday night. The junior is currently ranked 11th nationally in the event and will face No. 14 Brett Suckstorf of Nebraska along with No. 29 Max Mays and No. 33 Matt Dechant, both of Ohio State.
