QUICK RECAP

Oklahoma (2-0) wrapped up opening day competition with a 1-0 victory over Chattanooga (0-1) on Saturday at the National Softball Collegiate Invitational in Clermont, Fla. The pitcher's duel came down to a critical bases loaded sacrifice fly from freshman Keilani Ricketts in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ricketts picked up her second win in the circle, going the distance with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

THE DIFFERENCE

Ricketts proved to be the difference in the game in the fourth inning. With runners on second and third and just one out, Ricketts struck out one batter and the second grounded out to end the threat. After that, Ricketts retired nine of 10 batters, only giving up a leadoff single in the seventh. Of the final nine outs in the game, five were strikeouts.

SCORING SUMMARY

The only run of the game was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. Haley Nix led off the inning with a walk and pinch runner Evan Sallis advanced to second on an illegal pitch. Sallis moved to third on a bunt single by Krystle Huey. After Huey stole second and Amber Flores reached after being hit by a pitch, Ricketts' sacrifice fly ball attempt to left field was dropped allowing Sallis to score from third.

GAME NOTES

Oklahoma and Chattanooga met for the first time. OU leads the series, 1-0.
The Sooners are now 74-12 in first-time meetings. OU is 43-5 when that contest is played at a neutral site.
Ricketts became the first Oklahoma pitcher to record 10 or more strikeouts in a game since D.J. Mathis struck out 10 against Iowa State (March 21, 2009).
