Oklahoma Finishes Day One at Head of the Hooch

Chattanooga, Tenn. – The University of Oklahoma rowing team ended its first day at the Head of the Hooch with six of the 10 fielded boats finishing in the top 20.
"We've got to give credit to Texas," Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "They've done an outstanding job on the racecourse this fall. We have a lot of work to do between now and our championship season, but we have a pretty motivated group and if we approach the training with proper intensity over the winter months we'll be on track to accomplish our goals this spring."
Oklahoma entered seven boats in the varsity events. The Sooners fielded three boats in the varsity eight, with the top boat, “A”, finishing sixth with a time of sixteen minutes and 20.7 seconds. The “A” finished ahead of Louisville (16:25.7) and is the highest yet for Oklahoma at The Head of the Hooch. The “C” and “B” boats finished back-to-back in 28th (17:20.4) and 29th (17:22.2) respectively. The Sooners finished behind Texas (16:01.1), Tennessee (16:05.1), UCF (16:17.9).
In the varsity four, Oklahoma fielded four boats with the top boat finishing seventh (17:53.0). The “B” boat finished in 10th with a time of 18:08.1. The “C” and “D” boats finished back-to-back in 27th (18:46.4) and 28th (18:52.0) respectively. The Sooners finished behind Texas (17:33.0), Clemson (17:42.0) and Duke (17:43.7).
The Sooners also had three novice boats race, all finishing in the top 20. In the novice eight, Oklahoma fielded the “A” and “B” boats, finishing 11th (18:52.5) and 12th(18:57.2). Oklahoma finished behind Texas (“A” 18:02.3, “B” 18.04.4, “C” 18:32.0), Tennessee (18:18.5) and UCF (18:28.7).
In the novice four, the one fielded boat finished 19th (21:22.8) behind Duke (“A”18:19.0, “B” 19:18.0) and Texas (“A” 19:40.0, “B” 20:02.8).
The Sooners return to action tomorrow morning at 8:22 a.m. CT with the open single and open doubles competition.
