Norman, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma rowing team heads to Austin for the 26th annual Head of the Colorado Saturday. The Sooners feature 12 boats in the 5,000-meter head races at Lady Bird Lake.

"Our novice team will be racing for the first time this weekend," Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "I think they're really anxious to get out on the race course and see what they can do. We have a solid group of walk-ons and our novice coaching staff has been doing a great job with them."
Oklahoma opens up competition at 8:02 a.m. CT with four boats in the open eight event, followed by two boats in the novice-1 eight at 10:10 a.m. Competition continues in the afternoon with four boats in the open four at 12:03 p.m.,one boat in the novice-2 eight at 12:18 p.m. and one boat in the novice four closes out the Sooners' day at 2:18 p.m.
Oklahoma will be up against opponents such as SMU, Texas A&M, Texas and Baylor.
"We lost to Texas when we raced earlier this month, so we really need to focus on the Longhorns this weekend because they will be our toughest competition," Crain added.
Oklahoma had an excellent showing in last year's Head of the Colorado with six out of the eight boats fielded finishing in the top five. The Sooners took home one gold, two silvers and one bronze.
