Radu Advances in Singles and Doubles at Regionals

NORMAN, Okla. – OU women's tennis freshman Alice Radu went 3-0 on Saturday at the ITA Central Region Championships to advance in both singles and doubles with partner Ana-Maria Constantinescu.

Radu and Constantinescu defeated Kate Lukomskaya and Kelsey Sundaram of Arkansas in the doubles round of 16, 8-4, and Veresova and Mary Weatherholt of Nebraska in the quarterfinals, 8-2, to advance to Sunday's semifinals. The OU duo will play Emily Carbone and Stephanie Roy of Arkansas in the semifinals.

Radu also won in the singles round of 16 and will play in the singles quarterfinals on Sunday. Radu topped OSU's Nataliya Shatkovskaya Saturday, 6-2, 6-1, and will face Lutfiana Budiharto of Wichita State in the quarterfinals.

“Alice battled through some fatigue and played her best tennis of the fall to beat OSU's top player,” OU head coach David Mullins said.

Whitney Ritchie and Maria Kalashnikova fell to the tournament's No. 1 seed, Claudine Paulson and Anouk Tigu, 9-7.

“Our doubles play today was outstanding,” Mullins said. “Maria (Kalashnikova) and Whitney (Ritchie) created a lot of great opportunities against the No. 1 seeds but could not convert on some key points.”

OU's Brittany Parks will play in the 'White' singles final in the KU Fall Tournament in Lawrence. Parks defeated Abbie Probert of Colorado, 6-3, 6-3, and will play KU's Vika Khanevskaya in Sunday's final.

Tara Eckel and Mia Lancaster both won in the 'Jayhawk' singles consolation semifinals. Eckel topped Paulina Los, 6-2, 7-5, while Lancaster beat Kristina Schleich, 6-1, 6-2. Eckel and Radu will play each other Sunday in the consolation finals.
