Norman, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma rowing team heads to Boston this weekend, Oct.23-24 for the Head of the Charles. The regatta is the premiere race of the season, held on the Charles River and hosted by the Cambridge Boat Club.

Head of the Charles Notes

"This will be a real test for the varsity eight,” Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. “We're going up against some of the best teams in the country. It's a challenging course with a lot of bridges and turns. Kelsey Witten has been doing a great job in practice and is well prepared. We go off the line 20th so being aggressive and taking advantage of passing opportunities will be key."

The Sooners will field one boat in the women's championship eight race, one of the main attractions for the weekend. Oklahoma will compete against 30 boats with elite opponents such as Virginia, Columbia, Yale, Stanford, Washington and Boston.

The championship eight race is scheduled to begin at 2:09 p.m. CT with live results and video available at the Head of the Charles website.

The Head of the Charles race course is a challenging three mile course, beginning at Boston University's DeWolfe Boathouse and winding upstream throughout the entire course. Last year was Oklahoma's first appearance at the oldest regatta in the nation, finishing with a time of 19 minutes and 25.311 seconds.
