NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma cross country program is set to compete this Saturday, Oct. 16, as the men's and women's teams split with men headed to the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind., and women to the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.

The No. 16 ranked men's team will race at the Pre-Nationals meet in the 8,000 meter White race at 12:50 p.m. CT on the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. The White race features a stacked field consisting of 10 teams ranked in the top 30 according to the United State Track and Field Cross Country Association (USTFCCA).

Scheduled to compete for the OU men are George Alex, Jacob Boone, Scott Cooper, Patrick Gomez, Eric Harasyn, Bill Kogel, Alex Muntefering, Kevin Schwab, Rob Sorrell, Jeremy Sudbury, Aaron Sherf and Kevin Williams.

The meet is a precursor to the NCAA Cross Country Championships, held on the same course on Nov. 22. The Oklahoma men finished 12th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2009.

The OU women's team will race in the Chile Pepper Festival at 10:30 a.m. at the 5,000 meter distance. Oklahoma will compete against more than 80 teams on the University of Arkansas Cross Country course.

Slated to race for the OU women are Natalie Crain, Hilary Krein, Molly Ferguson, Kelly Waters, Kelsey Brown and Annie Martin.

In addition to the women, Colin Slattery, Clay Mayes and Richard Renteria will also be competing individually at the Chile Pepper Festival at 9:45 a.m. in the men's 10,000 meter race.

The festival is one of the largest cross country festivals in the nation hosting over 4,000 runners and 4,000 spectators each year.
