NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma softball team opened the 2009 Fall Festival with a 10-0 shutout of Connors State Friday evening at the OU Softball Complex.

Sophomore Evan Sallis led the Sooners off with a single, and would end the game 4-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Sophomore Karolyne Long then hit an RBI single, scoring Sallis to get the Sooners on the board early at 1-0. Oklahoma added one run in the second, five in the third, and two each in the fourth and fifth.

“Offensively, I was very pleased with Evan Sallis,” said Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso. “It was nice to see someone in the lead off spot take over the way she did tonight.”

Freshmen Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults each had a big afternoon for the Sooners. Ricketts went 1-for-2 with a grand slam in the third inning to bring her homerun count to two on the fall season. Shults also went 1-for-2 with a two-run blast in the fourth inning. Senior Amber Flores joined the action with a two-run homerun in the fifth to run-rule Connors State and complete the shutout.

Sophomore pitcher Kirsten Allen pitched four innings giving up five hits and striking out two. Sophomore Allee Allen pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
