NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma softball team shutout Odessa College in the nightcap of the 2009 Fall Festival with a score of 8-0.
The Sooners were led offensively behind senior Amber Flores, who went 3-for-4 on the night and just a single shy of the cycle. Flores started her night with a triple in the first inning, followed by a home run in the third and an RBI double in the sixth.
“To have a lineup with Amber back in it tonight was great,” said Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso. “A lineup with Amber, (Keilani) Ricketts, and (Lindsey) Vandever has a chance to be very potent.”
The Sooners were helped out as well by senior Lindsey Vandever, who went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI single, and junior Haley Nix, who went 1-for-1 with a home run and two walks.
On the mound for the Sooners was freshman Keilani Ricketts, who pitched a complete game shutout while recording eight strikeouts and giving up just two hits. Ricketts also went 1-for-1 with an RBI single at the plate.
“Keilani was much more efficient on the mound tonight, threw a lot less pitches and threw early strikes, our offense really helped her out as well, by providing the run support,” said Gasso.
The Sooners continue tournament play tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. CT as they face off with Texarkana College at the OU Softball Complex.
