Rowing Begins Fall Season in Big D

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma rowing team competes in the first regatta of the fall season Saturday, Sept. 19 in Dallas, Texas against SMU. The Sooners race on the 8,000 meter course at White Rock Lake beginning at 7:00 a.m. CT. OU's varsity eight and varsity four teams are competing

Oklahoma races two boats in varsity eight competition. Varsity A consists of coxswain Lauren Price, Meagan Harrell, Chelsea Moore, Rebecca Stafff, Brooke Sheppard, Sarah Kelle, Ally Gray, Abbey LaFollette and Meghan Farrell. The Varsity B boat is made up of coxswain Kiley Poppino, Sara Sherrer, Brooke Holleman, Caroline Brannin, Maureen Lewis, Janelle Roche, Heather House, Kat Rabe and Tamara Clayton.

The Sooners are also racing two boats in varsity four competition. Varsity A is led by coxswain Amanda Hoffman, Melea McCreary, Nicole Furmanek, Elena Engles and Monique Gaines. The varsity B is led by Kelsey Witten, Brooke Homer, Virginia Ratcliff, Ashley LaFollette and Sam Fahed.

The varsity teams competing this weekend feature 14 returning rowers and 14 rowers racing for the first time as Sooners.
