Rowing Try-Out Meeting Set

NORMAN, Okla. -The University of Oklahoma rowing team will hold an informational meeting for potential walk-ons Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. in the Kerr-McGee Club Lounge located in the football stadium.
The opportunity to try-out for the Sooners and compete for a Big 12 Championship is open to all students. Students will be evaluated on their general athleticism while receiving rowing instruction and taught the sport of rowing. No prior experience is required.
Last season the novice teams gained experience competing in regattas across the country in cities such as Austin, Texas and San Diego. Not only did the team gain an experience of a lifetime traveling and representing OU, they were successful in competition. The novice teams recorded regular season wins over Texas and Iowa in the first novice eight, advanced to the Grand Final as the only non-Pac 10 team at the San Diego Crew Classic in first novice eight, won the first novice eight race at the Big 12 Championship, placed second at the Big 12 Championship in second novice eight, advanced to the Grand Finals at the South/Central Regional in novice eight and earned a silver medal at the SIRA Championships in the novice four.
This season features regattas in Austin, Texas, San Diego, Boston, Dallas, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and two trips to Tennessee. Oklahoma will host the OU Invitational and the Big 12 Championship.
