Duo Earns All-America Honors

NORMAN, Okla. – A pair of University of Oklahoma softball standouts have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America team, the organization announced today. Junior Amber Flores (Calexico, Calif.) was named to the first team as a utility/non-pitcher player, while senior Samantha Ricketts (San Jose, Calif.) was named to the second team as an at-large selection. Both were named to the first team All-Central region earlier this year.

Flores was named to the second team in 2008, while Ricketts earned second team honors in 2007. Flores is the first Oklahoma player named to the first team since Norrelle Dickson (2007). The All-America honors for Flores and Ricketts bring the Oklahoma program total to 33, including 10 first team honorees.

2009 NFCA All-America Teams

Flores, the Big 12 Player of the Year and first team all-conference selection, averaged .416 on the year, hitting 62-for-149. Flores was issued a single-season record 49 walks was hit by a pitch 19 times. Flores drove in 58 runs while scoring 64. Hitting in the second spot, Flores had a season-high 18 home runs, 12 doubles and produced a slugging percentage of .872. Flores also produced an on-base percentage of .594. Her totals in slugging and on-base percentage were also single season OU records.

Ricketts, a first team All-Big 12 selection, averaged .322 during her final season. Hitting just behind Flores in the lineup Ricketts set career records in runs batted in (239) and home runs (48) during the year. She drove in 56 runs on 58 hits and scored 32 runs. She was issued 21 walks and hit a league-high 15 doubles.
