COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Oklahoma Track and Field men's sprint group came away with four NCAA Regional qualifying marks, led by Eric Bailey's win in the 400-meter hurdles Saturday at the Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus. Bailey was joined by D'Andre Fisher (110-meter hurdles) and Mookie Salaam (100- and 200-meter dash) in eclipsing the NCAA Regional standard needed to compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional, May 29-30, in Norman.
Bailey's PR and regional qualifying time of 51.60 was good for first in the 400-meter hurdles as the sophomore defeated Michigan's Carl Buchanon (51.67) for the event's top finish. Bailey's time ranks fourth in the Big 12 Conference.
Fisher produced OU's first regional qualifying mark of the day in the 110-meter hurdles where he finished third overall and second among collegiate competitors with a time of 14.25. The time came one week after the Edmond native ran a season best 14.15 in the event at the Sooner Invitational.
Salaam followed Fisher with his performance in the 100-meter dash, claiming the same result as Fisher, third overall and second among collegiate athletes. Salaam crossed the finish line in a regional qualifying time of 10.50. The freshman ran a season best 10.47 at last week's Sooner Invitational.
Salaam returned to the track two hours later and again ran a regional qualifying time, this time in the 200-meter dash. Salaam's 21.17 was second overall and the fastest of all collegiate athletes.
