NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione announced today that he has accepted the resignation of men's golf coach Jim Ragan.
Ragan just completed his ninth season at OU. The Sooners advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of his first eight. He plans to seek an opportunity that will allow him to concentrate on his family.
"As a result of family and personal reasons that have arisen over the last six months, I have made the decision to concentrate my efforts and resources to addressing and resolving them," Ragan said. "Consequently and reluctantly, I am resigning my position as head golf coach at Oklahoma and wish my players, associates and supporters the best in the future."
A highlight year for Ragan and the program came in 2006 when he coached Oklahoma to the Big 12 Championship. He was named the conference coach of the year after that win. Individually, Ragan recruited and coached Anthony Kim, a three-time All-American and the 2005 Big 12 medalist.
"Jim and I have discussed his concerns and I appreciate the perspective he maintains," Castiglione said. "He has our gratitude for the leadership he has provided and for the hard work he has put forth on our behalf."
Castiglione said that a search for a replacement will begin immediately.
