NORMAN, Okla. - The 2009 NCAA Norman Regional begins Friday evening at the OU Softball Complex. The seventh-seeded Sooners welcome Arkansas, Tulsa and North Dakota State in the double elimination tournament. Arkansas and Tulsa take the field Friday at 5 p.m. CT, while OU faces North Dakota State at 7:30 p.m. CT.
OKLAHOMA IN THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
The Sooners are making their 16th straight NCAA Championship appearance, which includes every season of the Patty Gasso era. Oklahoma owns eight NCAA Regional titles - 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008. The Sooners are 18-0 in NCAA Regional games played at home. OU has made five appearances in the Women's College World Series - 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. The Sooners won the national championship in 2000.
SOONERS IMPRESSIVE IN THIS DECADE
The Sooners are 31-3 in regional play since 2000. In 34 games, Oklahoma has outscored its opponents 200-55. In five home regionals at Marita Hynes Field, the margin is 114-23.
OKLAHOMA PUTTING UP THE NUMBERS IN HOME REGIONALS
In 18 home NCAA Regional games, Oklahoma hits .352 (179-of-509) and has 15 home runs and just four errors. In that span, the Sooner pitching staff has a 1.31 earned run average in 123 innings pitched (23 earned runs) and 109 strike outs. OU has held opponents to a .204 (88-of-432) average.
SOONER REWIND: OKLAHOMA FALLS IN BIG 12 TITLE GAME, 5-0
The Oklahoma softball team fell to Missouri in the 2009 Big 12 Championship game, 5-0, on May 10 at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The Sooners managed just two hits off Tiger starter Chelsea Thomas. Thomas threw a complete game shutout, walking two and striking out four. Junior Lindsey Vandever went 1-for-2 on the day and senior Jeannie Douglas was 1-for-1 with the pinch hit single. OU starter Kirsten Allen went four innings, allowing three runs on five hits. K. Allen walked three and struck out six. Two of the Missouri runs were earned. Reliever Allee Allen threw the final three innings, allowing two runs, one of them earned on three hits. She also walked two batters. Junior Amber Flores, senior D.J. Mathis and freshman Karolyne Long were named to the all-tournament team.
FLORES BREAKS SINGLE SEASON WALKS RECORD
As if anyone really had to guess if it would happen, it really was a matter of when. Junior Amber Flores drew her 46th base on balls of the season against Texas in the Big 12 Championship. The new single season record breaks her previous record of 45 set in 2008. Flores now has 117 career walks, one shy of tying the Oklahoma career record.
SOONERS CAPTURE FIRST BIG 12 REGULAR SEASON TITLE SINCE 2000
With the series sweep of Missouri and win at Oklahoma State, Oklahoma captured its fourth regular season title under head coach Patty Gasso and first since the 2000 National Championship season.

FLORES NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE YEAR
University of Oklahoma junior Amber Flores was named the 2009 Big 12 Player of the Year on May 7. Flores follows former Sooner greats Jill Most (1996), Lynette Velazquez (1999), Lisa Carey (2000), Kelli Braitsch (2001) and Norrelle Dickson (2007) in earning the honor. The Calexico, Calif.-native led the conference in a majority of statistical categories throughout the year and carried the Sooners to the Big 12 regular season title.
GASSO NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR
University of Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso earned Big 12 Coach of the Year honors after leading OU to the regular season Big 12 title. Gasso was named the Big 12 Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career. Each of her previous three honors have come when the Sooners have won the regular season title.
EIGHT EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Junior Amber Flores was named to the first team All-Big 12 team along with seniors Samantha Ricketts and D.J. Mathis, sophomore Krystle Huey and freshman Katie Norris. Junior Lindsey Vandever and sophomores Haley Anderson and Chana'e Jones were named to the second team. It marks the first time since 2001 the Sooners have placed eight on the All-Big 12 teams and third consecutive season with at least five first team selections. It is the 13th straight year Oklahoma has had at least five all-conference honorees.
FIVE HONORED AS ACADEMIC ALL-BIG 12
Five Sooners were named to the first team All-Big 12 academic team. Those honored included senior Samantha Ricketts, junior Lindsey Vandever, senior Jeannie Douglas and sophomores Dani Dobbs and Wendy Trott.
