NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma rowing team had a successful day at the Longhorn Invitational, winning three of four races on Lady Bird Lake.

Oklahoma's varsity four lost by a narrow margin to the defending national champion Wisconsin lightweights, seven minutes 33.1 seconds-to-7:32.5. In the afternoon, the Sooners sought redemption and posted a time of 8:20.4 to defeat UCF by 29 seconds flat.

The first novice eight glided to two victories today, first defeating the Texas novice eight 7:04.5-to-7:11.6. An epic race took place in the afternoon as the first novice eight fought to the end to beat Iowa 7:35.6-to-7:36.5.

OU's second novice eight raced the first novice eight of the Texas Crew Club today to gain more competition experience. Novice coach Andy Derrick was pleased with the way the women performed and hopes it will carry over tomorrow.

The rowing team hits the water for the final time Sunday at the Longhorn Invitational facing Wisconsin and Texas in the first two races of the day.
