NORMAN, Okla. – The eighth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team opens the 2009 home schedule on Wednesday afternoon, hosting Stephen F. Austin in a doubleheader. The opening game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT at the OU Softball Complex. Tickets remain for the contest and can be purchased online or by calling (405) 325-2424. Fans in attendance can pick up their 2009 team poster and schedule card.

The Sooners (6-2) are 28-10 all-time in home openers and a perfect 14-0 in the Patty Gasso era. Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Stephen F. Austin, 10-0. The Sooners and Ladyjacks have met in Norman only once. OU won 4-3 in a 15-inning contest on May 4, 1979. The two teams are meeting for the first time since the 2002 season.

Oklahoma went 2-1 last weekend at the rain-shortened Houston Marriott Classic. OU dropped the opening game, 2-1, to N.C. State and rebounded to defeat #14 Houston, 5-3 and Texas State, 3-2, to close out the weekend.

Against Texas State, Sophomore Chana'e Jones drove in two runs on a one out single to put Oklahoma up 3-0. The Bobcats put two runs on the board in the sixth but freshman Kirsten Allen picked up her first save of the year as the Sooners held off the threat. Junior Lindsey Vandever led the way for OU against Houston, going 2-for-3 with one run scored. Senior Samantha Ricketts also went 2-for-3 with one run batted in.

Overall, Vandever leads the team at the plate with a .522 average. Vandever is 12-for-23 on the year. Junior Amber Flores is hitting .500 with a 1.050 slugging percentage.
